FAQ
How does the Shopify theme detector work?
It loads the store's public homepage and reads the theme object Shopify includes in every storefront (Shopify.theme), which contains the theme's name and version. It also matches the page code against 4,000+ app and tool fingerprints.
Why does it say 'Custom or third-party theme'?
The store either built its own theme, bought one outside the Shopify Theme Store, or renamed a copy of a theme. The name shown is the one the theme itself reports.
Can it see every app a store uses?
It sees apps that load on the storefront, such as reviews, upsells, pop-ups, chat, pixels and email capture. Apps that only work in the admin or at checkout leave no trace on the storefront and can't be detected by any tool.
Is it free?
Yes. For best sellers, full price stats, CSV export and new-product alerts, use the Store Inspector Chrome extension.
